Jameela Jamil is our HWOM for November. Why? Because she may be this century's most 'woke' woman. Jameela has pioneered taking down the hypocrisy of the wellness and fashion industries, spurring on women to accept themselves as they are. She started the Instagram account @i_weigh which challenges women to "weigh" themselves by their achievements and qualities rather than a number on a scale. It's got a lot of traction and we think it's wonderful.
More than this, Jameela has taken Hollywood by storm and is currently featuring in Netflix's The Good Place, a refreshing and genuinely funny programme about the afterlife featuring a number of well-known and fresh faces. It's definitely one of our favourites and perfect comfort television.
Jamil is a beacon of self-acceptance and positivity and if you aren't feeling your best, a quick scroll through her social media channels will be sure to cheer you up and inspire some self-love.
Here's to a wonderful woman. Good on you, Jameela!
- Jameela wore a chicken suit for 16 days straight in order to raise £16k for the charity Comic Relief.
- She has Indian and Pakistani heritage.
- She suffered from anorexia nervosa from the ages of 14 to 17.
- At the age of 17, she was hit by a car and very nearly lost her ability to walk. She states this as the pivotal moment that reshaped her relationship with her body.
That's what she said:
I wanted to be a part of telling women there is no segregation. There is no need to ever not feel beautiful or glamorous. There should be nothing that gets in your way.
