“Be strong. Don’t be a follower. Always do the right thing. If you have a choice between the right or wrong, do the right.”
On Jennifer Lawrence’s 28thbirthday, we celebrate her as August's HWOM, and here's why:
1. Lawrence is known in the media as an advocate for feminism and gender equality. She is open about being a feminist, which she argues should not intimidate people "because it just means equality." We salut you Jen. Not only does she promote body positivity among women, she has also been vocal in the gender pay gap and famously wrote about her own experiences in Hollywood, such as the lesser salary she received for her work in American Hustle compared to her male co-stars.
2. She actively supports womens rights. She collaborated with 300 women in Hollywood to set up the Time's Up initiative to protect women from harassment and discrimination. Jennifer also participated in the 2018 Women’s March to affirm her commitment to women's rights.
3. She was the highest-paid actress in the world in 2015, 2016 and 2017, but despite her huge success, Lawrence remains remarkably grounded. She’s incredibly supportive of charitable organisations, and as the founder of the Jennifer Lawrence Foundation, she supports various charitable organisations.
Fun Fact: Jennifer worked as an assistant nurse at the children’s summer day camp that her mother ran whilst growing up.
